How well protected is your workplace?

How well protected do workers feel their workplaces are?

Many people worry about job security, but what about safety? As it turns out, most workers feel that their workplace is reasonably well-protected, with 94 percent of workers saying their office is a secure place to work, according to a new survey from CareerBuilder.

Man vs. nature

Still, the survey shows that some security threats are more concerning to workers than others. Fires, floods and other similar disasters are low on most workers' radars, with 85 percent saying their workplace is well protected against such physical threats. Similarly, 83 percent say the same about weather-related threats.

Man vs. man

While workers seem secure in man's mastery over Mother Nature, threats posed by other people make them a little more nervous. Only 30 percent say their workplace is well protected against physical threats from another person.

Workers are more confident in their digital security than they are in their physical security. Seventy percent of workers say they their workplace is well protected against digital hacks.

What's the plan?

Many of workers' concerns about workplace protection may stem from a lack of clear planning. According to the survey, 23 percent of workers say they would not know what to do to protect themselves if there was an emergency in their office that posed a physical threat.

Here's what workers had to say about their leadership's emergency preparedness:

21 percent report their company does not have an emergency plan in place in case of fire, flood or other disaster. 26 percent say their company does not have an emergency plan in place in case of extremely severe weather. 40 percent don't believe their company has an emergency plan in place in case of a physical attack from another person or a technology security breach.
